Today we’re going to take a look at the BungyPump training poles – a resistance training tool to help intensify your hikes and speed up your strength training.

First Impressions: To be honest with you, when I first received this I was a little skeptical. Standing still, the resistance of the bungee poles up and down sliding motion didn’t seem very strenuous, and I thought it simply going to be more of an inconvenience. WRONG! My opinion soon changed after I took these guys out on a hike around San Francisco’s parks.

Let’s Look At The Basics of How These Work:

THE RESISTANCE: There are a few different models ranging from 4, 5, 6, and 10 kilos of resistance. What happens is with each step forward and each placement of the pole, the pole sinks down at its respected degree of resistance, forcing you to use more energy and strength to fulfill one motion forward.

THE EFFECT: Because of this resistance, you’re burning more calories, you’re exercising more optimally, and building your muscles.

THE INTENSITY: What’s great about resistance training is that it works more naturally with your own body than powering through weight lifting and bench pressing. Ever done P90X? The entire system is based on resistance training. And if you have ever done it, you’ll know just how instense it can be!

THE FUN: And the best part of it is that you’re using these while you’re out on one of your regular hikes. It’s a lot easier to choose to bring these along for extra training than it may be to get up and head to the gym. I personally would much rather train outside on the trail rather than inside a musty gym!

My Experience:

I’ve never been someone that’s hiked much with walking sticks or poles. But, I have always been someone that is looking to improve my fitness level. The better my cardio is the longer I can go, and the stronger I am the harder I can climb. So, I was really intrigued to see just how much these poles might contribute to my fitness training.

After about 2 hours of hiking around San Francisco’s Presidio, I was sold. They definitely worked me. I could feel the burn in my arms after while with each step, and definitely noticed I was having to give more energy as the minutes went by due to the resistance.

I would definitely say that with consistent use of the BungyPump, it would be a great addition to your workout as well as just making your hiking routines more effective in terms of adding to your fitness training regimen.

Where to get it:

You can head on over to the BungyPump website here where you’ll be able to read more about how it works, the four different types and their resistances, as well as watch a few videos featuring happy testimonials. I would recommend getting one of the higher resistance poles if you’re looking to really intensify your workout.

Thanks Lauren, my son is bringing these to Australia. I agree, they are a fantastic product. Not only for fitness but for older people too, they are a great tool to aid in climbing steep hills and make it so much easier. I LOVE mine!!
